Developing my ideas

Ideas development

What is my chosen brief?

I seem to like the idea of creating a game concept & creating models & advertisement material for it. I want to create 3D models for the character & environment concepts, maybe some soundtracks too, but we will see on that one. I am therefore choosing the "Infinite possibilities" brief as I am extremely interested in exploring this. I want to create characters & environments & a soundtrack for the game.

My ideas -

1. Creating a space racing game, similar to "Mario Kart" where you race a few laps to the finish. You have an array of characters to choose from with them having unique abilities that allow you to get ahead of the other players. You can get power ups & level up your character to allow you success amongst other players. There is skill based matchmaking where you will only be placed with players that are in the same league as you & not more experienced or worse players. The game is supposed to be fun & exciting & the visuals & soundtrack will reflect this. More info will be added if chosen.

2. Creating a game inspired by "Rust" & "The Sons of The Forest" where you are an alien that has to defend its home from human & animal invaders that try to invade & take over you base. It's kind of like those mobile games where you defend your base against zombies that are trying to kill you except in this the enemies are humans & animals. The environment is dark & scary like "The Sons of The Forest" environment or its prequel "The Forest". The visuals or dark & scary so the soundtrack will also reflect this depending on the situation.

3. My next idea would be creating a game mixed between realism & low-poly, having a bit of a mix between the two, creating a strange but fun game. This game would primarily be a shooter in which you just go around shooting aliens & humans. There is no story nor any real character development, just a fun game for when you are bored & maybe you like mixed visuals.

4. This is an idea based on mobile games, more optimal for the Xbox mobile game pass. The idea is a simple low poly game for people who are into the "Hitman" series. But you are a rag-doll hitman (like Octodad) where you have to control each of the hitmans limbs using your phone touch, though if a controller is connected then it will be usable. There will be loads of enemies to face & control challenges of the character. The sound track will be accompanied by funny & goofy like sound effects for when something happens or events happen.

Idea feedback -

Josh Williams -

All your ideas sound really fun, especially the hitman one. The low poly visual style that you're going for really fits the goofy nature of your game while also giving it quite a unique and modern look. Octodad did insanely well for such a bizarre indie game and so I think drawing inspiration from that is a good shout. You might want to consider making a unique character for the protagonist of your game so people don't get mixed up between your IP and the actual hitman IP as they could think it's a spinoff. Apart from that though, the games ideas all seem really well put together and your website looks great as always.

El Morgan -

I think the 4th one is quite good and could be very entertaining, as there are not many games like that in the market that have been successful (as far as I'm aware). I do quite like that concept and I think games like that are unique and have the potential for a lot more content further on in the future. I would imagine the 1st one would be visually cool, but off the top of my head I marker for racing games. Is there a particular story for the second one or is it just one of those game you come up with your own story for? The concept is unique, exchanging the character dynamic of evil alien and good human for the opposite, where the human is the enemy; but besides that is there any difference from a home defence game? I think your wording the 3rd is just based on visuals? And you did say there would be no story but from my own experience games with story (even games that have the tiniest premise) tend to be the most popular. If players are just put in a game world with no reason as to why they're there and no explanation at any point in the game, I feel like the player attention span won't be that extensive. But overall, I do quite like all these concept, they're all relatively unique and have a lot of potential to do well in the marketplace if actually produced, sla
y.

My thoughts -

I understand that the 3rd concept doesn't make a lot of sense, players are supposed to enticed by the visuals & make up there own story in the heads, or just take their anger out on the enemies of the game, this may not be great long term but the game would actually be free to download, but in game items require purchase etc. So far I understand that a lot of other people also seem to like my hitman idea, though it would not be a direct spin-off from the official HITMAN games, instead I would implement other ideas of mine & add them to the game concept. Overall, thank you to El & Josh for their feedback & I have taken this into account for my ideas.

My chosen idea -

I want to create the low-poly hitman game because I believe this would be really fun & interesting to make. I also believe this would be challenging as I am not great at creating low poly models & environments. I am also creating a soundtrack for the game which will be interesting as I am not used to creating music so this will also be a small challenge.

Elaborating & developing on my idea -

(PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE CONCEPTS, NOT FINAL DECISIONS. I WILL BE RESEARCHING MY IDEAS BEFORE MAKING FINAL DECISIONS. FINAL DECISIONS WILL BE IN MY PRE-PRODUCTION)

Environments & tone -

I want to create different in-game levels. However I do not have weeks to just create levels for a game concept, therefore I will just be creating 2-3 different levels. The images are good inspiration for some models though I also want to use my own creativity. The tone of each scene will depend on both the difficulty chosen & the level chosen. For example, if you have chosen a harder mission, the mission will be suspenseful & a slight vignette will be on screen whenever near a target.

Gameplay -

I want to create 2 characters, a female & male model (diversity). The 5th image is a good reference for my game models & I made use something like that. The characters will have different clothes depending on the mission, kind of like the actual hitman game. Throughout each mission you can use different disguises to blend in, but they have a time limit as it would be too easy other wise.

Music

I want the games music to be slow, but fun & suspenseful like the actual hitman music, just more cartoon style. The will be sound effects throughout the game, such as when you fall over, or when you shoot etc. These will be further researched throughout the research & pre-production stage
