Ideas research
Starting off -
To start of with my idea research, I first want to look into Beano characters as it is the 1st brief. Beano is renowned for being a goofy comic based in the UK. Stereotypically claimed to be read by avid comic book readers such as children or teenagers, however this is far from the truth. In fact many young adults also indulged into Beano comics & their animated shows. Kids & young adults seem to enjoy the rebellious side of life & being a kid & Beano comics brings that out. Young adults could easily reminisce about who they used to be as a trouble maker in school & in public, more senior people would also be able to easily relate to this hence why some grandmas & grampas may even have left over editions of the comics lying around.

Why consider low-poly?
As much as I realise I have used a lot of low-poly ideas in my research, I am not entirely just sticking to that style of design. I am open to hyper-realism or realism like shown here (shameless plug). I want to mainly go low-poly because it is open to all demographics. For example, as much as people may be amazed by hyper-realistic graphics such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Battlefield, it is actually short term & people grow old quickly. People play games, watch cartoons & look at art to escape the real world, not be reminded of it, therefore I like the idea of low-poly & fun style art as it is no where near realistic & it allows people to escape & be amazed by simple colours, not complicated colours that keep people confused in. Cyberpunk 2077 became a commercial flop on launch because as much as the graphics were amazing, the gameplay was awful & platforms like Xbox had to issue mass refunds as the game was not even near playable. However, take a game like "Fall Guys", low poly, simple colour straight forward design. A battle royale game that became popular for it's style, you are simply a bean looking character trying to win against other players for the crown whilst facing mini-games are uncertain elimination. This got gamers hung in & content creators streaming it 24/7 is it got massive views, meanwhile "Cyberpunk 2077" got a few thousand at most.

My examples
Low poly examples
These are examples of me showing of the necessary skills that I may be using when I create the final outcomes. Above are both an environment I created in blender & the next is a simple character I created with help from a YouTube tutorial from Joey Carlino. This helped me imagine the possibilities for my final outcome though I still have to choose an idea yet.

These are examples of realistic models & environments. This is to help me explore possibilities with realism for my game & help me decide which would suit better for my ideas.
How I made it (since I lost the recording) -
I used a rock with the base sub-division modifiers & the base displacement modifiers, then I just messed around the get a quick curve shape that I liked. Then I added a sampling tree from the curves and added features to it like so. I just used the same tree generator to create the other 2 trees in the background. I converted them all to mesh then I used a simple tree bark texture on them & used smart UV project to apply the texture properly. I textured the rock using a simple rock texture I found with the blender kit plug-in I use for most of my blender projects as it saves time searching the internet for textures, models etc. For volumetric (god-rays etc) I used a particle system & added a UV sphere into the scene, used a translucent texture node & with the particle settings, spread it around the scene to create dust effects which I though would better suit the scene. For the lighting I used a sun light which I just aimed of to the right to create more shadows to create the ambience in the scene. The background is an HDRi I used from blender kit & positioned the camera to look into the sunlight to create the effect that the sun was casting the light.
Music -
I am considering making a game soundtrack for my game so I am going to research a few game soundtracks. Music in games has different settings depending on the situation the player is placed in. For example, horror games like "Outlast "normally have suspenseful or airy music to give the player a feeling of dread. Whereas games like "Fall guys: Ultimate Knockout" has fun & competitive music as it is a small battle royale style game. Examples of game soundtracks are below.
From what I am hearing from these soundtracks. The low poly style games have a retro, 8-bit sound to then whilst the realistic games have a more clean sound & less energetic. The "Outlast" game soundtrack I featured is part of a chase sequence, it sounds very ominous with smacking sounds & quick music to make the player hurry up & feel scared. The GTA 5 soundtrack is actually from one of the music radios features when you are in one of the games cars & the radio plays. That specific soundtracks starts slow but speeds up & sounds really fun & enjoyable when playing the game and driving around.
